Abraham’s
faith was not blind faith. Rather, his faith came from his knowledge of God.
His believing came from his knowing; his knowing came from numerous encounters
with God. This is Abraham’s theological-experiential knowledge. It is this kind
of knowledge of God that helped him believe. In Genesis, we see that Abraham
trusted in moving. “Then the Lord told Abram, ‘Leave….and go….’” (12:1ff) True
believing moves along with the promise of God; the God of promise moves along with
those who believe.

Trust, Move,Trust, Move....
Romans
4 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. Whenever I am bothered by the
future, I turn to a few chapters in the Bible. Romans 4 is one of them. “And
Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though he knew that he was too old to be a
father at the age of one hundred and that Sarah, his wife, had never been able
to have children. Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact,
his father grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God” (4:19-20, NLT).
Even though Abraham was facing “double deadness” (his dead age and his wife’s
dead womb), he continued to believe and hope. God’s promise became the sole
element of Abraham’s faith. “He was absolutely convinced that God was able to
do anything he promised” (4:21, NLT).
